Maryam Yakhchali 1, Zahra Taghipour 2, Mehran Mirabzadeh Ardakani 2, Mahdi Alizadeh Vaghasloo 3,Mahdi Vazirian 4, Sima Sadrai 5 Based on TPM and pharmacological studies, Cinnamomum verum(Darchini)’s potential effective functions can contribute to SARS – CoV- 2 infection treatment and has been known to be effective in corona disease in Public beliefs. From the viewpoint of TPM theories,Cinnamon can be effective in SARS – CoV-2 improvement and treatment through its anti- obstructive, diuretic, tonic and antidote effects. In addition, there is pharmacological evidence on anti – viral, anti inflammatory,antioxidant,organ-o-protective and anti-depression effects of Cinnamon that are in line with the therapeutic functions mentioned in TPM.Overall, Cinnamon and its ingredients can be recommended for SARS – CoV2 management due to multi – targeting therapies. This review provides basic information for future studies on this drug’s effectiveness in preventing and treating COVID-19 and similar diseases.

Abstract COVID – 19 is a pandemic and acute respiratory disease. Every day, all around the world, researchers are endeavoring to find effective or potential adjuvant therapies. Studies illustrate that essential oils from cinnamon and derivatives such as cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid possess numerous biological activities. In this paper, we have reviewed the possible mechanisms of cinnamon on the inflammatory cascade as a potential alternative therapy to decrease oxidative stress and inflammation in COVID-19 patients.

Could cinnamon modulate the immune response in severe COVID-19?
By Dr. Liji Thomas, MD Mar 18 2021
Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic’s first emergence, limited progress has been made in developing effective and safe antivirals to prevent and treat infection by the pathogen responsible, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS- CoV- 2). A new study recently appeared in the journal Frontiers in Plant Science that describes the potential for two common plant products to make a difference in the management of severe COVID-19.Study: Cinnamon and Hop Extracts as Potential Immunomodulators for Severe COVID-19 Cases. Image Credit: AmyLv / Shutterstock In severe and critical COVID-19 patients, a so-called cytokine storm has been identified, characterized by exaggera-ted inflammation and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), often with multisystem damage and organ failure. The inflammatory response is due to the production of high levels of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS / RNS) that establish the vicious cycle of further inflammation. The inflammatory damage that can be done to the lung alveoli, the endothelium, and the ingrowth of blood vessels has become clear.
This type of inflammation centered on the blood vessels is not confined to the damaged lungs in COVID-19, but also involves sustained inflammatory changes in the liver, brain, gut and heart, among other organs. Thus, the ability to prevent or restrict the cytokine storm and reduce the oxidative stress on these organs would be useful in preventing death and could even, perhaps, reduce the viral load by suppressing viral replication. One such option has been dexamethasone, which reduces mortality by 30% in patients on ventilators. The current study is a follow-up of a prior screen that involved 99 herbal extracts thought to be anti- inflammatory. It zooms in on the top two, namely, Hop (Humulus lupulus, cones) and Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum alias C. zeylanicum, bark) extracts.
These were found to bring about steep declines in activation of a key regulator of pro – inflammatory cytokines, namely, transcription factor NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells)
This Cinnamon-Flavoured Chewing Gum Can Reduce The Spread Of Covid-19, Study Says
The gum is laced with a plant-grown protein that can potentially decrease the viral load of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in saliva, by neutralising it, and reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus By: Radifah Kabir/Updated : 06 Dec 2021 01:57 PM (IST)
New Delhi: Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania have developed a chewing gum that can reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission, by acting as a “trap” for the novel coronavirus. The gum is laced with a plant-grown protein that can potentially decrease the viral load of the SARS – CoV-2 infection in saliva, and reduce its transmission, according to the study published recently in the journal ‘Molecular Therapy’.
The study was carried out in collaboration with researchers from The Wistar Institute and Fraunhofer, USA.
In a statement issued by the University of Pennsylvania, Henry Daniell, lead author of the study, said that the SARS-CoV-2 replicates in the salivary glands, and when an infected person sneezes, coughs, or speaks, some of the virus may be expelled and can reach others. He added that the gum offers an opportunity to neutralise the virus in the saliva, giving people a simple way to possibly cut down on a source of disease transmission.
Though vaccines have played a major role in changing the course of the pandemic, they have not ruled out transmission of Covid-19. Even people who have been fully vaccinated can become infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and can carry a viral load similar to the unvaccinated, according to recent research.
- Researchers Studied ACE2 Protein To Develop The Chewing Gum
Daniell had been growing a particular protein with a therapeutic potential in his lab, even before the onset of the pandemic. The protein, called angiotensin – converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), was being studied to understand its potential to treat hypertension, and was grown in the lab using a patented plant-based production system.

Results of a scientific Research Study just released in the US and publicized by news media worldwide present a game changing bonanza for Sri Lanka Cinnamon Industry needs.
In the first known US study analyze levels of the banned toxic chemical coumarin in cinnamon products, University of Mississippi Scientists have basically given Ceylon Cinnamon, aka True Cinnamon, a gold seal of approval, affirming that it contains negligible traces of the chemical as compared to the cheaper substitutes imported from China, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The study appearing in the April issue of the Journal of Agriculture and Food and Chemistry(JAFC) published by the American Chemical Society warns that a high doses of coumarin could cause kidney and liver damage and calls for the setting of daily intake levels.
MIRACLE CURE- Given the exploding popularity of Cinnamon, not simply as a food flavorant, but a s a “miracle cure” for lots of health issues ranging from obesity to heart disease and arthritis, the findings spell boom time for the island’s cinnamon exports.
